Big Fish

The new Big Fish looks quite similar to another lateen-rigged, flat-bottomed beach boat that has been around for over 50 years, but its ivory-colored hull gives it away. The advance material I received on this car-toppable daysailer came from Big Fish, Inc., but the return address is the same as that of a company that builds much bigger boats—the Island Packet yard in Florida. It has room for two adults in the cockpit, an easy-to-rig rainbow-colored sail, and hiking straps for when the wind pipes up. The flat-bottomed hull should jump onto a plane and will provide the sensation of speed that only boats like this can deliver. If you have a longing to feel the wind in your hair, the spray in your face, and the pure joy of pushing off the beach in a small boat, the Big Fish could be what you’re looking for.
