While there are a number of potable water filtration systems available, Forespar’s PureWater+ will be particularly useful in the compact galleys found on many modern boats where the countertop is almost completely taken up by a stove, reefer access and a sink. The reason for this is that the unit requires only minimal real estate for the modest hole necessary to allow its narrow lower body to slip down to the plumbing below. Sold as an All-In-One Clean Water system, the kit includes all the necessary hoses and fittings, as well as a 5 micron activated-carbon filter element. Once the connection has been made no other under-counter access is required. Cartridge life is three months or 350 gallons, although Forespar says it has tested the cartridges to higher throughputs. Servicing requires little more than rotating the faucet a quarter turn, lifting it off and replacing the filter element from above the counter. Standard 5 micron and enhanced 0.5 micron elements are available singly or in slightly cheaper two-packs.
