Dive in to Halloween

Everything's more fun on (or in) the water, right? Divers participating in underwater pumpkin carving contests around the country think so. Ocean Enterprises in San Diego just hosted their 20th competition (Photos) while Amoray Dive Resort at the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary held their tenth (Photos). Even northern dive shops in Minnesota and Canada are getting one last pumpkin-carving dive in before the lakes freeze.

For some of us, carving pumpkins on our kitchen counter is hard enough. But armed with only a dive knife, 30 feet below the surface, divers face an added challenge: Pumpkins float. See the carvers in action here. Rebecca Waters
