According to a recent story in the San Francisco Chronicle, holding the next America’s Cup in the Bay Area could pump as much as $1.4 billion into the local economy. For comparison, that’s three times more than if the city were to host the Super Bowl.

The Chronicle bases it numbers on a recent report by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute and Beacon Economics. According to the report, an America’s Cup in the region would generate 8,800 jobs, for everything from prep cooks to engineers. Hosting a Super Bowl generates between $300 million and $500 million, on average.
