Bali Catamarans, known for their ability to accommodate a passel of people in style and comfort, are taking it up another notch with the new Bali 5.8. Launched to celebrate Bali’s 10th anniversary and debuting at the Cannes show in September, this new flagship 58-footer “completes the range from the top down,” the company says in a media release, coming after its launch last year of the opposite end of the range, the 38-foot Catsmart.
“Bali Catamarans knows how to be gigantic in all the models in its range, by opening up the boats and offering nearly 20% more space than traditional catamarans of the same size,” the company says. “So when it comes to 18 meters, the art of Bali Catamarans clearly shines through.”
That is to say that space and expansiveness define this new boat, even while sticking to design features that have worked well for Bali in smaller models, including the tilting door enabling the salon-cockpit. The galley forward includes a full-size, standing refrigerator/freezer, and you can expect to seat 12 people in comfort at the dining table/lounger. The boat’s massive bow lounging area is directly ahead of the galley, with opening windows and a door connecting the two.
The cabins come in an array of configurations and include luxurious owners’ suites with a completely restyled, extra-large shower and head space. Even in the six-cabin version, all heads have separate shower and toilet compartments. Expecting that this will be a captained boat, Bali has designated a commodious captain/crew cabin.
Under sail, the 5.8 has 2,580 square feet of upwind sail area, with a self-tacking jib and option for a code zero for sailing off the wind.
