After a year off in 2020, the United States Boat Show in Annapolis is back. From the diminutive Areys Pond Cat 14 XFC to the massive Lagoon Sixty 5, many of the SAIL’s 2022 Best Boats Nominees are on display for the public to get a firsthand look at, and SAIL’s Best Boats panel will be scouting out the very best in design and innovation all week. At first glance this year’s show seems slightly smaller than usual, likely due to limited inventories across the industry and supply chain issues that are keeping some European builders from bringing a handful of boats into the States. However, the reduced show isn’t a signal of any dire straits for the industry. In fact, many builders are reporting record orders for new boats and much of the charter market is booked out months in advance. Energy is high among exhibitors, who are definitely glad to be back together again.
“While it’s true the number of boats on the docks are fewer than usual, there is actually an impressive number of new designs debuting this year,” says Cort after Wednesday’s walkthrough. “Once the gear tents are up and running, I’m sure we’ll see plenty of exciting things there as well.”
