The 2012 Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing will have an international field of 14 Class 40s, which is 10 more than last year’s inaugural regatta. Competitors in this multi-city event represent the U.S., France, Germany and Great Britain.
The race starts in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 11 and heads to New York Harbor for the second leg and a Pro-Am event from May 14-19 before departing for the final leg, which finishes in Newport, Rhode Island, with inshore racing from May 26-27.
The accomplished skippers who have signed on to race include Ryan Breymaier, for Mare (Germany), Halvard Mabire and Miranda Merron for Campagne De France and Jesse Naimark-Rowse for Talan-Bureau Veritas (France).
Also groundbreaking, the Atlantic Cup will be the first carbon neutral sailing race in the United States, thanks to a partnership with Green Mountain Energy Company. Emissions associated with the event, such as air travel, hotel stays, electricity and ground and water transportation will be offset.
The event has also announced beverage sponsors Pabst Blue Ribbon and Doublecross Vodka. Pabst beer will be available to celebrate the conclusion of each leg of the competition.
