This is Otto, our 9-year-old Shepherd mix. He’s out on his very first sail on our new-to-us boat, a 1988 Compac 27. It’s our first boat and Otto came out with us on our first overnight on the Chesapeake Bay. He did great and seemed very comfortable and excited to be on the boat!

Man’s Best Friend
This is Puppers, a rescue dog we just got one month ago—this is his first time on the boat! He’s helping me fold the sail, protecting the dinghy from seagulls and looking for fish. Next weekend we’re off to Angel Island for his first sleepover on the boat—wish us luck!

Charles Doane’s, Baxter, was nervous at first. Returning from his first walk ashore, he frantically leapt overboard as I landed the dinghy on Lunacy’s transom. Even with his life-vest on, he sank like a stone.
Rescued and Ready Here’s our 8-year-old rescue cat Empress, sneaking her first peek at Lake Champlain from the cockpit of our 1984 Beneteau First 32.5. They don’t sell cat life vests here, so a small doggie version tests her resolve. —Bob Robinson Charlotte, VT
