Catalina Yachts and its sister power boat company, True North Yachts, have been sold to Michael Reardon, founder and CEO of Daedalus Yachts. The move consolidates two of the remaining American sailboat builders.

Catalina, a stalwart classic manufacturer based in Florida, and Daedalus Yachts, which focuses on green luxury maxi cats in North Carolina might seem like an odd match, but Reardon aims to lead Catalina into a new era that expands on its classic legacy while staying true to the brand’s spirit.

“For over 50 years, Catalina Yachts has been a name synonymous with quality, performance, and integrity,” said Patrick Turner, President of Catalina Yachts. “Michael Reardon shares those values, and we are confident he will honor the history of our brands while guiding them into a strong and sustainable future.”

The new owners have committed to retaining all personnel and continuing to support their dealer network. They also have hinted that we can expect designs for a new Catalina model on the horizon.

Jean Butler, wife of the late Catalina founder Frank Butler, has shared that her husband “believed in building boats that brought families together and gave people joy on the water. I believe Michael Reardon understands that spirit. Frank would be proud to see Catalina and True North in the hands of someone who values the people, the product, and the passion that built this company.”

“We’re not just preserving the legacy — we’re building upon it,” said Reardon. “Catalina and True North are iconic American brands, and I’m honored to lead them into the next era of growth and innovation.”

Catalina’s 6 Series was reviewed for SAIL’s 2025 Best Boats competition.
