On this day in 1948, Sir Peter Blake was born. The Kiwi yachtsman was a legend in offshore racing, winning the 1989-90 Whitbread and co-skippering a Jules Verne Trophy-winning circumnavigation with Sir Robin Knox Johnston. He also led his country’s team in three successive America’s Cups from 1992-2000, winning two of them.
