The wind gods giveth, and the wind gods taketh away—pity those poor sailors and regatta organizers whom they choose not to favor with a good breeze. Fortunately, both the organizers of this year’s Sperry Top-Sider Charleston Race Week and SAIL magazine’s Best Around the Buoys (BAB) crew, racing aboard the Beneteau Oceanis 37 BeneRound, received just enough of what they needed to count the three-day event a success.

The International Sailing Federation has ruled that four-time British Olympic medalist Ben Ainslie was guilty of “gross misconduct” when he assaulted the crew of a media boat during December’s ISAF World Sailing Championships in Perth, Australia.

This year’s series, which begins May 11, will also feature a second double-handed leg from Charleston, South Carolina, to New York Harbor, in addition to an offshore leg from New York to Newport, Rhode Island, and two days of inshore racing.

The Atlantic Cup is finally here! Presented by 11th Hour Racing, the 2nd Annual Atlantic Cup, featuring a fleet of 15 red-hot Class 40 racers, begins this evening in Charleston, South Carolina.

After finishing first in the Volvo Ocean Race’s Leg 5, PUMA Ocean Racing secured yet another victory in Leg 6, from Itajai, Brazil, to Miami, FL. While the 30 points may not yet give PUMA the lead, they certainly have helped shorten the gap between PUMA and race leader, Telefonica.
