In partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association, Antigua Sailing Week is launching a mentorship program to encourage women and girls to join the sport of sailing. President of Antigua Sailing Week, Alison Sly-Adams says, “When we devised the program, we looked at existing successful mentorship programs worldwide and in particular the Magenta Project. The program focuses on performance sailing and although eventually, we would love to see more women in racing, we decided that the Antigua and Barbuda program needed to be broadened to include recreational sailing and additionally to invite women into the industry. There are already many women in high profile positions within yachting in Antigua and Barbuda, but we would like to invite more to join in.”
The program is open to female participants aged 16-30 interested in developing their knowledge and skills in the sport or industry. There are no prerequisites or required sailing experience needed. Applicants must only be open to new ideas and developing a relationship with their mentor.
Applications for the eight available mentee spots are due May 31, 2021.
