In 2011, SAIL gave a Pittman Innovation Award to Yale Cordage for its Ph.D. rope, which the company manufactures from high-modulus Spectra fibers. Now the company is offering a lower-priced polyester version of the line, with the same advantages of an easy hand, smooth performance and excellent winch grip. The key feature is the rope’s single-braid construction, which consists of strands of polyester filament bundled up into yarns contained within Yale’s proprietary iGrip sleeves. An added benefit of this single-braid structure is that you can put an eye-splice in the rope in just a few minutes using a single fid, a pen and some tape.
