Boat US and the National Women’s Sailing Association (NWSA) are looking for the next recipient of their annual Leadership in Women’s Sailing award. Submit your nominee today.
Awarded for over 25 years, this honor celebrates an individual (of any gender) with a proven record of “inspiring, educating and enriching the lives of women through sailing.” The application requests information on the nominees impacts, contributions, volunteer roles, and previous awards.
“We seek to introduce more women to sailing, a lifetime sport and healthy lifestyle to share with others,” says NWSA President Debby Grimm. “Sailing teaches leadership, S.T.E.M. skills, team building and promotes enjoyment of nature and responsibility. Both our organizations help nurture the skills and sense of community to help sailors grow throughout their boating lives.”
Last year’s recipient, Debby Sinnet is a life-long sailor who made an impact in a host of communities that she’s lived in as a Coast Guard spouse. She spearheaded the Ideal Women program at Stonington Harbor Yacht Club and the Windward Women at the Halifax Sailing Association in Daytona Beach, Florida, and has been celebrated by both clubs for her impact.
“Kathy has a gentle but firm nature to lead with enthusiasm while learning. Her ‘can-do’ attitude makes others ask how they can become involved,” says Grimm.
