James Cook, famed British explorer, navigator, and cartographer was born in this day 1728. He is best known for his three exploratory voyages around the Pacific and Southern Oceans. More recently, his accounts of Hawaiian culture have been used by modern canoe builders to reconstruct historic vessels.
