The American Sailing Association has announced that they are partnering with the navigation app Savvy Navvy for their courses, including an all new course on electronic navigation.
Leadership from the ASA acknowledge that paper charts still have a place in our navigation tool kit, but digital platforms are the norm these days, and it’s important to educate boaters with the tools that they will actually use.
“Although I love traditional paper charts, when I’m on the water, my phone or tablet is mounted in the cockpit,” says David Taylor, CEO of American Sailing. “Every sailor I know does the same thing.”
David Cusworth, Head of Partnership and Innovation at Savvy Navvy, agrees. “Today’s boaters, especially those new to the water, are digital natives. They expect navigation to work seamlessly like everything else in their digital lives. ASA shares that understanding, and this partnership reflects a joint commitment to making digital navigation a standard part of boating education across the USA,” he says.
There are over 400 American Sailing School locations around the world, and they will be added to the Savvy Navy app, allowing users to access information about finding accredited boating programs right within the app’s platform. Students will receive member discounts.
