An inordinate number of boat fires are caused by poorly maintained shore power connectors and inlets. The pins on commonplace push-and-twist connectors are prone to corrosion, which decreases the metal-to-metal contact, which leads to higher resistance, which in turn leads to overheating and possibly a fire.
