Now in its fourth year, Bacardi Miami Sailing Week is fast becoming one of the premier sportboat regattas of the winter southern circuit. An expanded version of the fabled Star Class Bacardi Cup (which was founded in Cuba 86 years ago and migrated to South Florida following the Cuban Revolution) takes place March 3-9 and now hosts Melges 24s, Melges 20s, Viper 640s, J/80s and—new this year—the fast-growing J/70 class.
The regatta has also spawned a second event, Bacardi Newport Sailing Week, set to take place in June. As in Miami, racing in Newport is aboard smaller one-designs, including Viper 640s, J/80s, J/70s and Stars. For details, visit miamisailingweek.com.
