The show has gone on despite last week’s Covid panic in Auckland, and the “underdog” Italians are victorious. After being bested by INEOS Team UK in the round robin section, they seemed to have an uphill battle ahead of them going into the finals. However, the Italians have been steadily refining their handling and teamwork throughout this series, and INEOS Team UK was no match for their superior boat speed and consistency. In the end, the series was short, with the Italians only letting one race go to the Brits before reaching the requisite seven wins.
INEOS Team UK has now been eliminated from the running for the America’s Cup, joining American Magic on the sidelines while Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli advances. They will face the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the America’s Cup in March.
