Special Treats
CARIBBEAN. Everyone likes to save money—and why not. If you must have some time in the tropics and can’t wait for the summer specials in the Caribbean and the Bahamas to kick in (see May SAIL for a rundown)—and if you’re flexible about dates—you’ll find that most bareboat companies in the Caribbean are offering last-minute online specials. The list on sailmagazine.com links to company Web sites; from there it’s a short cruise on the Web to an impromptu sailing vacation.
U.S. AND CANADA. SAIL’s list of bareboat-charter companies in the U.S. and Canada has been updated and is available on sailmagazine.com. Many of these companies offer less-than-a-week charters, either weekends or pay by the day. This is a good option if your time to explore a new cruising ground is limited but your enthusiasm is not.
NEW DIVING PROGRAM. Horizon Yacht Charters Antigua has come up with a creative way to do everything, but not all at once. Its eight-night “Sail & Dive” package combines three nights ashore at Jolly Harbour Marina (two days of diving) with five (more can be booked) nights of sailing. You must have Open Water certification to participate in this program; if it’s been a year or more since your last dive, a free refresher course is available.
