Never mind the silly intro—nor, for that matter, how odd it is seeing longtime Emirates Team New Zealand stalwart Nick Holroyd working for another country—in this video Softbank Team Japan technical director Holroyd provides the best overview of the factors involved in getting and ACC catamaran to foil we’ve ever seen.
Of course, this being the America’s Cup, it’s hardly beyond reason that Holroyd might be keeping a trick or two up his sleeve. But then again, it’s kind of hard to hide what you’re up to in terms of foils when you’re continually waving them around as your teams flies back and forth across Bermuda’s Great Sound. (As opposed to a certain winged keel that remained shyly beneath the waterline back in Newport…) We’ll see come the actual racing in May!
