Where to start with the Mini 650 Arkema 3? Canting keel? Check. Powerful lifting daggerboards? Check. Wingsail? Check. Craziest of all, the thing actually works, with skipper Quentin Vlamynck having sailed the boat to a second-place finish in its very first race, France’s 300-mile Pornichet Select. “It did me good to be sailing at the front of the fleet in this race,” said Vlamynck, who plans to also compete in this year’s Mini Transat. “Competing against others is the best way to fine-tune the boat’s settings. It will keep my mind focused on the next races.”
