The New VO65 One-Design Is Afloat

The round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race has a new design for 2014—just one design, the VO65. For the first time, every team will compete on the same model boat, stripping the race down to what will be a fierce battle of skill.

All Female Volvo Team

For the first time since 2002, the Volvo Ocean Race will include a boat with an all-female crew. Sponsored by the Swedish forestry company SCA, the all-female effort was both the first to sign up for the event and the first to confirm an order for one of the new 65-foot one-designs that will be used in the 2014-15 edition of the race.

As the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Racing enters its final weeks, VOR management has unveiled a new boat for the next two editions that it hopes will address the twin problems of high costs and breakages. n a break with tradition the new 65-footer, which has been designed by Volvo veteran Farr Yacht Design, will be a one-design, constructed by a consortium of boatyards in the UK, France, Italy and Switzerland.

Abu Dhabi Secures First Win as VOR Heats Up

Abu Dhabi nabbed its first Volvo Ocean Race leg victory after sailing 3500 miles from Miami to Lisbon, Portugal in 12 days. Groupama finished second just six minutes later, followed by PUMA, Telefónica, CAMPER, and Team Sanya.

VOR Sets Sail from Miami to Lisbon

Only three legs remain in the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean race, as Leg 7 began May 21 from Miami. The six teams will sail 3,590 miles from Miami to Lisbon Portugal.

Leg 6 of VOR Gets Increasingly Strategic

Leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race is now underway. The 3,590-mile stretch will take the teams from Itajai, Brazil, to Miami, Florida, and is expected to last about 14 days.

CAMPER Completes Leg 5 of Volvo Ocean Race

After 31 days, brutal weather conditions and an endless stream of boat repairs, Leg 5 of the Volvo Ocean Race has finally come to a close. The arrival of CAMPER in Itajai, Brazil on Tuesday marked the end of the longest stretch of the entire race, and arguably the most challenging segment up to this point.
