This month the Storm Trysail Club will mark its 25th running of Block Island Race Week, even as it celebrates its 75th anniversary as an organization. Founded in 1938 by some veterans of the extremely tough 1936 Bermuda Race, the club has since become an important sponsor of both inshore and offshore racing.

Headquartered in Larchmont, New York, the club founded Block Island Race Week in 1965 and has run it every odd year since. As in the past, this year’s event, which includes both buoy racing and an around-the-island course, will attract many of the best sailors in the United States, with a number of classes using the event to stage their regional or North American championships, including the Beneteau 36.7, Swan 42 and HPR classes, and a number of J/Boats classes.

As part of this year’s regatta, which begins June 23, the Storm Trysail Club will also include a doublehanded division. For more information, visit blockislandraceweek.com.
