LOOSE DEPTH CONNECTION

Q: The LCD readout on my boat showing bottom depth has become intermittent. When I pulled apart the nav station panel, it magically started working properly, but a few days later, it returned to intermittent.

The problem is likely at the transducer plug and connector assembly. Wires seldom break on their own, so I suspect a simple dirty connection at the transducer cable plug. Denatured alcohol may help clean the contacts. Repeatedly plugging and unplugging the connector assembly should also solve the intermittent problem. After the cleanup of the cable connector, watch the depth readout and wiggle the plastic connector—got bottom? Probably cured.
